Extravagant Spending on College Campus

According to a survey, in recent years the monthly expenditure of a college student hasbeen on the sharp rise. Many college students have no concept of thrift in their mind. Theytake it for granted that they spend money from their parents before they enter into the society. This extravagant spending is primarily caused by the following factors.

First of all, nowadays most of the students are the only children of their families. They arethe apple in their family’s eyes and naturally get more care and pocket money. In addition, withthe improvement of living standards, parents can afford higher expenditure of their children. Moreover, some students like to pursue fashion and trends, which tend to need more money. Finally, campus love is also a possible factor causing extravagant spending.

From my point of view, a college student, as a pure consumer, should learn to be thrifty. We should limit our expenditure on daily necessities but not buy whatever we want regardlessof their prices. The habit of thrift can help us form right values and is favorable to our futuredevelopment.

02、运气与成功

"When people succeed, it is because of hard work. Luck has nothing to do with success." Do you agree or disagree with the quotation above? Use specific reasons and examples to explain your position.

[范文]

It has been said that when people succeed, it is because of hard work and that luck has nothing to do with success. Although I believe that hard work is very important and is the surest way to success for most people, I must disagree with this statement. It cannot be denied that luck often plays an important role in success. For example, many important discoveries have been made by accident. There have been many cases of researchers and inventors making major breakthroughs while they were actually trying to solve another problem or create a different device.

Furthermore, there is something to be said for simply being in the right place at the right time-perhaps meeting someone by chance who can offer a good job or rare opportunity. And of course, there are the rare examples of gamblers and lottery winners who beat the odds and achieve sudden and unexpected success.

While the influence of luck cannot be ignored, this is not to say that one should depend on it and ignore the value of hard work. If one is willing to work hard, I believe that success will eventually be achieved, with or without the added benefit of luck. Moreover, hard work is often an essential ingredient of luck because it enables one to take advantage of a lucky encounter. If the scientist has not worked hard to develop his knowledge and skills, he may not recognize that lucky breakthrough when it comes along. Therefore, my suggestion is not to count on luck to bring you success. Instead, work hard and keep your eyes open for that lucky opportunity.

03、帮助受灾者

如何尽自己所能帮助受灾受难者

【范文】

Many people may be afflicted with natural disasters such as flooding, famine, drought or starvation. Should people in rich areas extend their help to those unfortunate victims?

I think it is of crucial importance to render immediate help since we are emotionally affected by the sufferings of the numerous people in calamity areas, and our sense of humanity and sympathy tells us to reach out a hand to them. We must take action in thinking of ways to help instead of staying where we are with folded arms and indifferent response. There are many ways of doing this. We can send relief workers into the problem areas like doctors, nurses, technicians or workers. This is a form of rendering professional help. Other practical forms of help include collecting and sending food and clothes into these areas. These useful items will

serve their purposes very well in the absence of corruptional officials. A far more important way is providing them with technical, agricultural and health education. This will deftnitely be a more costly involvement but it is effective in building up their economy Or developing it for their future survival.

04、对快餐的看法

1.快餐在中国十分流行

2.快餐受欢迎的原因

3.我对快餐的看法

【范文】

Fast Food

Fast food is becoming more and more popular in China, especially among children and teenagers. Today, nothing is more representative of the fast pace of modern society than fast food. There are several reasons for its popularity. First, it is quick and convenient. Go into a fast food restaurant, and your food will be ready in a minute. You can satisfy your hunger instantly. Precious time wont be wasted in waiting-in-line to order or waiting at your table for your food to arrive. Second, its popularity is also attributed to the clean food, the excellent service and the comfortable environment of the fast food restaurant.

However, I think that fast food isnt healthy enough because it does not compose a balanced diet and is low in nutrition. Doctors suggest that people should avoid eating too much fast food. Although home cooking is time-consuming and following washing-u p tiresome, it offers healthy and delicious meals your body likes and needs.

05、大学生就业难

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay on the topic College Students’ Job Hunting. You should write at least 120 words following the outline given below.

1. 近几年出现了大学生就业难的现象

2. 产生这种现象的原因(如大学生追求的目标过高,专业不对口等)

3. 如何解决这一问题(改变就业观念,大学生再培训等)

【范文】

College Students’ Job Hunting

In recent years, college students find it increasingly difficult to get a job. It sounds strange since young college students are usually intelligent, well-educated phenomenon, aspirant and eager to bring their talent into full play. Then what underlies the strange phenomenon?

There are several reasons for this. To begin with, nowadays college students aim too high. All they want are “good” jobs which could offer good salary, comfortable working conditions, high social status among others. Consequently, most college students are unwilling to accept vacant jobs they consider not “good” enough. Another reason is that there is a big gap between the majors some students study in school and the demands of vacant jobs. So companies think some students are not fit for the jobs.

Solution to the problem requires efforts on both the society and the students. The companies should value the students, talent and knowledge while the latter should not merely aim at material gains. They should be down-to–earth in building up their career. Furthermore, they should face their weak points so as to improve themselves and be more competent.
