茅台(Moutai)是中国最有名的白酒,在新中国成立前夕,被选为国宴用酒。

Moutai is the most famous liquor in China, which was selected as the drink for national banquets right before the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

It is said that the villagers along the Chishui River started to make Moutai as far as 4000 years ago. During the Western Han Dynasty, people there produced Moutai of high quality and paid it as a tribute to the emperor. From Tang Dynasty, this local liquor has been shipped overseas through the marine silk road.

Moutai is charactered by its mild flavor and unique fragrance. Adequate intake of Moutai can help relieve fatigue and calm people down, as a result of which, Moutai becomes popular among consumers both at home and abroad.

Beijing roast duck originated in the Ming Dynasty 600 years ago, when chefs from all over the country were selected to cook for the emperor in the capital. It is believed that it’s a great honour to cook in the imperial palace because only those with outstanding cooking skills could be offered the job.
