Cyberbullying is a growing problem intoday's increasingly plugged-in world, with one in four children reportingthey've been harassed or bullied online. A Finnish tech company is hoping tocreate a kinder virtual space with a font that covers profanity in text-editingsoftware, such as Word or Outlook, with a blur. Using machine learning, Thepolite Type is also capable of spotting insulting phrases and replacesderogatory terms with inclusive language. "We want bullies to rethink the wordsthey use and the actual meaning behind them," said TietoEVRY spokeswomanKia Haring. The initial vocabulary of some 1,800 words was developed incollaboration with the Children and Youth Foundation and several nonprofitsthat work to promote persity, inclusion and anti-racism. New words andphrases will be added as more people and institutions download and use thefont.
