Its economic rebound is impressive butuneven

中国经济复苏令人钦佩，但发展并不均衡

At the start of the year no one would havepredicted that China would crow about such slow growth by its lofty standards.

在今年年初，没有人会预料到，中国对于如此缓慢的经济增速也会感到骄傲，因为中国一贯有着很高的标准。

Yet on July 16th it proudly reported thatGDp grew by 3.2% in the second quarter compared with a year ago, reboundingfrom its coronavirus lockdown. This makes it, by far, the best-performing bigeconomy.

然而，就在7月16日，中国自豪地报告称，中国第二季度国内生产总值同比增长3.2%，终于摆脱新冠病毒困扰，实现了经济复苏。这也使得中国成为目前全球表现最佳的大型经济体。

Sceptics question the data. But alternativeindicators confirm that the recovery is real, albeit highly uneven. DuringFebruary the government prioritised the reopening of factories, as shown bycoal consumption.

怀疑论者对这些数据提出了质疑。但其他指标可以证实，虽然发展极不平衡，但中国经济的复苏是无可置疑的。今年2月，政府将工厂复工作为首要任务，这一点可以从煤炭消耗情况得到印证。

Traffic congestion returned as people wentback to work, partly because, wary of public transport, more commuted by car.Banks ramped up their lending to keep businesses afloat. Some credit flowedinto the property market.

随着人们重返工作岗位，交通再次陷入拥堵，原因之一在于人们对公共交通持谨慎态度，更多的人选择开车上下班。银行增加贷款以维持商业运转。一些信贷资金则流入了房地产市场。

Yet flights are still down as few people goon trips. They also avoid crowds, taking the subway less often. Spending onrestaurants, including takeaways, is weak, which in turn points to the softlabour market.

但由于很少有人外出旅行，航班数量仍处于较低水平。人们也在尽量避免挤在一块，因此很少有人乘坐地铁。在外就餐(包括点外卖)消费疲软，这也反映了劳动力市场疲软。

That is all to say: China’s rebound fromthe coronavirus crisis is impressive, but it is not yet back to normal.

总而言之：中国经济得以从新冠病毒危机中复苏，这令人钦佩，但完全恢复尚需时日。
