We can often see this slogan on the internet ‘what we eat defines what webecome’, and from my point of view, healthy living style has greatly rely onyour eating habit. The bar chart gives information about residential expenditures spent ineight different sections in England in the given two years 1957 and 2007.
It is clear that housing expenditure took up the highest percentage in both1957 and 2007, which constituted 25% and 27% respectively. Meanwhile, peoplespent the least money on purchasing tobacco for the given two periods, theproportion stayed constant (6%). Also, consumers had spent similar money onfood, the ratio only increased decreased by approximately 2%. However, thespending on other goods and services increased from 9% to 14%
As for expenditure on drinks and clothing, the percentages both showed adeclining trend, moreover, these two figures had declined similarly by 5%. Theproportion for transport dropped from 15% to 10%, while the number for fuelconsumption rose from 7% to 14%. This might be explained by an increase in theprice for fuel over the five decades, with people’s increasing demand for energyuse.

The working population has always been fighting for better workingentitlements including annual paid vacations, though the welfare policy variesin different countries.
It is obvious that the benefits of statutory vacations are not onlyrestricted to employees but also to employers. First and foremost, holidays areessential for families to strengthen their bonds. Studies support that those whomanage to achieve the balance between work and family would be more likely tofocus on work than those who fail to do so. Moreover, physical health could bepromoted through taking a vacation. Increasing evidence shows that overtimeresults in increasing absenteeism rate, sick leave and high turnover, which isanti-productive. The last but not least supporting factor for a paid leave isinnovation and creativity which is believed to be seen in those refreshed froman extensive period of time off in many businesses, particularly in the fieldsof information technology and other “brain-intensive” domains.
However, it has to be admitted that vacation decreases working hours, hencereducing working outcome. Four week is nearly a twelfth of a year, which is nota short period of time and a month’s wage is not a small outlay for a business.For some companies, a consecutive 4-week leave is not practical. Besides theeconomic consideration, the connection between working efficiency and paid dayoff is under suspicion in some labor-intensive occupations. Would a post deliverworker performs faster after a one-month vacation?
From my own perspective, annual leave for a month is positive to workperformance in most cases, especially in those positions where innovation iscritical. But in some others, it can be negative and the loss of time cannot becompensated by higher work efficiency or effectiveness. Therefore, 4-week shouldnot be the mandated minimum paid vacation.
